Long Radius Elbow

Long radius (L/R) elbows have a 1.5D radius, which is equal to 1.5 x NPS in inch units. ASME B16.9 standard long radius elbows can be further divided into 90° and 45° types based on how the flow direction changes.

Long Radius Elbows are used and put to work in many different ways.

Long radius elbows have a few advantages over short radius elbows. Longer elbows are also used because gases and some liquids need less resistance, which a long elbow gives them. Among the other benefits are:

When long radius elbows are used, the pressure drop inside the pipe is not as big. This is perfect for gas pipes and pipes for food and drinks.

Long elbows reduce the chance of back-ups or clogs because they cause less resistance.
