Incoloy Pipes

what is incoloy pipe?

Incoloy is a nickel-based alloy that contains a high percentage of nickel, as well as chromium, iron, and other elements such as molybdenum and copper. Incoloy pipes are widely used in high-temperature and corrosive environments, where they offer superior resistance to oxidation, carburization, and other forms of high-temperature corrosion.

Some of the key properties of Incoloy pipes include excellent resistance to stress-corrosion cracking, high strength, good weldability, and excellent thermal stability. Incoloy pipes are commonly used in industries such as chemical processing, power generation, oil and gas, and marine engineering.

The most commonly used grades of Incoloy pipes are Incoloy 800, Incoloy 825, and Incoloy 800H. Incoloy 800 is a basic grade of Incoloy alloy with a high nickel content and is used in applications that require high strength and corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures. Incoloy 825 is a more advanced grade with a higher chromium content and better corrosion resistance in highly corrosive environments. Incoloy 800H is a modified version of Incoloy 800 with a higher carbon content, which offers improved creep resistance at high temperatures.

Incoloy pipes are available in various sizes and wall thicknesses, ranging from 1/8" to 36" in diameter and schedule 5S to XXS in wall thickness. They can also be supplied with various end connections, such as plain end, beveled end, threaded, or socket weld, and in different surface finishes, such as annealed, pickled, polished, or sandblasted.

Materials composition of Incoloy pipes

The materials composition of Incoloy pipes can vary depending on the specific grade and manufacturer, but in general, they are composed of nickel, chromium, iron, and other elements such as molybdenum, copper, and titanium. The most commonly used grades of Incoloy pipes, their chemical composition, and their typical mechanical properties are as follows:

1.  Incoloy 800: Incoloy 800 is composed of 32-37% nickel, 19-23% chromium, 0.15-0.60% carbon, and 30-35% iron, along with trace amounts of other elements such as aluminum, titanium, and copper. It has a tensile strength of 75 ksi (517 MPa) and a yield strength of 30 ksi (207 MPa).

2.  Incoloy 825: Incoloy 825 is composed of 38-46% nickel, 19.5-23.5% chromium, 2.5-3.5% molybdenum, and 22% iron, along with trace amounts of other elements such as copper and titanium. It has a tensile strength of 80 ksi (552 MPa) and a yield strength of 30 ksi (207 MPa).

3.  Incoloy 800H: Incoloy 800H is composed of 30-35% nickel, 19-23% chromium, 0.05-0.10% carbon, and 39.5-44.5% iron, along with trace amounts of other elements such as aluminum, titanium, and copper. It has a tensile strength of 75 ksi (517 MPa) and a yield strength of 30 ksi (207 MPa).

Overall, Incoloy pipes are known for their high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and good thermal stability, making them ideal for use in high-temperature and corrosive environments.
