4.  Determine the bolt circle diameter (BCD): Measure the distance between the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole directly opposite it. Multiply this measurement by the number of bolt holes to get the bolt circle diameter.

5.  Identify the flange standard: Flanges come in different standards such as ANSI, DIN, JIS, and others. Identify the standard to ensure that the flange will fit with other components in the system.
